Zwift Adds Triathlon Training Mode with Brick Workouts

Training apps for triathlon have gotten overwhelming with all the updates flying around. As someone who has bounced between every major platform at least twice, I learned to pay attention when something genuinely new drops. Zwift just released a triathlon training mode, and I have to say — this one actually caught my attention.

The update automatically transitions between swim, bike, and run workouts based on your scheduled training plan. No more fumbling between apps mid-session.

How It Works

You set up your planned workout in advance. When you start the session, Zwift guides you through each discipline with appropriate rest periods built in. The system tracks cumulative training stress and adjusts the intensity of subsequent portions based on how you’re performing in real time.

The virtual brick workouts are probably the most useful feature for triathletes. The platform adjusts resistance and metrics as you move from the trainer to the treadmill without needing to manually switch modes. Anyone who has ever lost three minutes swapping between apps while standing in their pain cave in soaked cycling shorts will appreciate this.

For swim training, Zwift now integrates with FORM smart swim goggles to display metrics and intervals directly in your field of view while you’re in the pool. That is what makes this update interesting for us multi-sport athletes — it’s not just a cycling feature with a triathlon label slapped on it.

Virtual Race Simulation

Probably should have led with this section, honestly. The race simulation feature lets you virtually race iconic courses like Kona or Nice, with your trainer adjusting resistance to match the actual course profile.

The simulation even includes weather effects. Training in humid conditions during a virtual Kona race will factor into the workout’s training stress calculation. Is it perfect? No. But it’s a whole lot better than staring at a blank wall for four hours imagining the Queen K.

Availability

The triathlon mode is available to all Zwift subscribers at no additional cost, which is refreshing. Some features do require compatible hardware, including a smart trainer and treadmill, so keep that in mind before you get too excited.
